Workshop 101 - Demo Recording
The Plan Outline
Step 1: We first meet in small groups where each songwriter
can present or perform a song. The songs are evaluated by the
group and one song is selected to pass on to the studio.
Step 2: We record the selected song from
each sub group.
Step 3: The
sub groups continue and work on lyrics and musical parts.
Step 4: All the groups get together and present the song they have already
chosen. The larger group then selects one song to pass on to the
studio.
Step 5: We record the selected song with any changes that were made in Step
3.
Step 6: An arrangement and chart is created. Song is performed as we
go to see how the song feels. Changes are made musically and lyrics as
needed.
Step 7: We record the arrangement of the selected song. Chart is re-checked
and revised.
Step 8: The studio house musicians record a real demo of the song using the
arrangement chart done in the workshop. This can happen the same day,
or if time or scheduling is an issue, session is scheduled for the following
week.
Because of the nature of the workshop,
each songwriter will be co-writing with other writers who attend the
workshop. In the final production version, there may be 4 different
main writers. Paperwork will be on hand. Slot-1 will retain
exclusive rights to the demo recording. All writers get a CD copy of
the final song.
